Flooring

Are you thinking of replacing carpet with a hard floor finish?

Timber floors, ceramic tiles, marble and stone are popular and wonderful floor surfaces, however, in apartment living they can create concerns with regard to noise and disturbance to your fellow neighbours.

The removal of existing carpet and replacement with a hard floor surface could change the noise environment in your downstairs neighbour’s home quite significantly resulting in an adverse effect on the enjoyment of their property.

Tara’s by-laws do not permit some types of floor coverings such as bare polished concrete and tiles are only permitted in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries but some changes are permitted.

Before the new floor is laid you need to contact the Strata Management company and provide details on the flooring type and underlay to be used and provide necessary proof that your proposed flooring meets the Building Codes of Australia standards in respect to noise suppression. The flooring supplier can usually provide this information.

Once the details are submitted and everything checks out OK then approval is given.

Apply to the Strata manager for approval.

Without approval you can be ordered to REMOVE unapproved flooring even after it has been installed.
